Letter from the Chair

Dear Prospective Board Member:

We appreciate your interest in becoming a board member of the Washington Homeschool Organization. As board members, we have an opportunity to support and influence homeschooling in this state.

Board membership is a significant responsibility, and we want to make sure you are aware of the purposes and goals of WHO and what the investment is. Enclosed is information we hope will answer your basic questions.

Volunteering for the organization and attending board meetings is very important. This will give you an opportunity to meet the board and key volunteers, ask questions and observe how WHO operates. It will also allow you to judge whether board membership will work for you. After reading the enclosed, if you find that you would like to be considered for board membership, please complete and return the questionnaire.

WHO Board Questionnaire and Application

Please Read Article II from the WHO By-Laws

Section 2. Specifically, the purposes of the Organization shall be:

  • To promote the interchange of information and support among homeschooling families and support groups in Washington state.
  • To keep abreast of legislative developments to ensure independence for the homeschooler.
  • To facilitate an informed statewide awareness of homeschooling.
  • To provide assistance to credible research about homeschoolers and homeschooling results and/or outcomes.
  • To assist parents, who are considering homeschooling, to make an informed choice and to offer resource information and support to those who have chosen the homeschooling option.
  • To encourage educational growth for homeschooling parents.
  • To assist homeschoolers and support groups establish communication with local school officials when needed and offer support and assistance in maintaining homeschooling rights under the law.
  • To assist and support local homeschool groups, and those wishing to form support groups, by offering counseling, guidance, and information on organization of such groups.
  • To uplift all honest and sincere endeavors to promote homeschooling
