Email of the Day:
I have been trying to research this and cannot find the answer so I thought maybe someone there could help. I had heard that I could give my son a half credit for working. I would really like to verify this before we write it into his plan. Could you help? Any info. would be appreciated! Thank you!
Answer:
The law says that “all decisions relating to philosophy or doctrine, selection of books, teaching materials and curriculum, and methods, timing and place in the provision or evaluation of home-based instruction shall be the responsibility of the [homeschooling] parent.”
Additionally, “the legislature recognizes that home-based instruction is less structured and more experiential than the instruction normally provided in a classroom. Therefore, the provisions relating to the nature and quantity of instructional and related educational activities shall be liberally construed.”
My daughter’s transcript (she’s now a college junior) contains all sorts of things — her training and work as a firefighter, international experiences, hands on experiences (like attending strawbale school and getting a permaculture design certificate). The law leaves it in your capable hands to make those decisions.
