“I could never do that.”

Another Homeschool Secret:

It’s really hard to say this to parents of public school kids who think they might want to homeschool, but think they couldn’t stand being around their kids that much without sounding like a total jerk, but, most of the time, the stuff they don’t like about their kids is a direct result of their institutionalization.

This is why so many people’s response to your saying you homeschool is, “I could never do that.” Because what they’re imagining is being with the part of their kid that they don’t like all day, every day.

What they don’t know / don’t understand is that when you homeschool, your entire family undergoes a huge shift, and your dynamics change. You get your kids for the best most vibrant parts of their day, and your evenings and weekends don’t have someone else’s agenda forced on them.

I want to tell public school families this, but I can’t figure out a way to do it without sounding like a total jerk.
