Super Secret (Anonymous) Heroine of the Day

Super Secret (Anonymous) Heroine of the Day:

“Me outside the superintendent’s office to self *be cool, be normal, don’t say anything out of line* . . .

Five minutes later, while waiting for paperwork, and hearing them blatantly lie to another homeschooling parent about mandatory testing exclusively through them: “THAT’S NOT TRUE! ACTUALLY YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO ANY TESTING THROUGH THE SCHOOL AT ALL. DO IT ONLINE, YOU GET TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN TESTS OR ASSESSMENTS WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE SCHOOL, AND IT’S BETTER THAN THEIRS BECAUSE THEY DON’T FOCUS EXCLUSIVELY ON LANGUAGE ARTS AND MATH!”

Judging by the icy glares piercing through me all the way until my exit, I think I handled that well.

Follow up note:
She was new to homeschooling, and her child was going to be in third grade. She asked them if she was required to do annual testing and they told her to do it through them, without even mentioning the alternatives. I told her about all the different types of tests and assessments available and referred her to online sources of info (WHO!) Once she got everything filled out, they looked at her paperwork and told her she was out of district all along, even though her child had attended school there since kindergarten.”

Yay, Super Secret Heroine! You go, girlfriend!
